Former college soccer-star, turned pastor, Luis Gonzalez is feeling a need for a big change after a painful breakup.
Even though Luis loves his church in Fairhope, Alabama, an opportunity comes out of the blue for a job in Boston. While there for an interview, Luis has a chance encounter with his longtime Boston friend Hattie Brown who introduces her new rescue dog, Buckley. Hattie suggests Buckley may be the perfect sidekick for a busy pastor and encourages him to start fresh in Boston.
Luis can't think of anything better than a church dog-and being in the same city as newly single Hattie, who has his heart beating a bit faster. Feeling brave and inspired, Luis accepts the Boston pastoral position and he and Buckley begin transforming a downtrodden church.
It all seems to be coming together perfectly until Luis's ex-girlfriend returns and a cranky Bishop makes life miserable. After a series of mishaps, Luis suddenly finds he may lose his two best friends and must take the risk of a lifetime.
