Change My Life in Bloomington, MN

It's basically more of the same from
Mr. Soundtracks
on his third album, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. He doesn't solely stick to the loungish piano ballads that have been his trademark, occasionally jangling things up a bit. Considering his background, though, his best assets are turning out to be the surprisingly conventional ones of tuneful, affecting slow pieces. These should appeal to fans of
John Cale
,
David Bowie
Alex Chilton
, and
Brian Wilson
, to name a few reference points. When he tries to rock harder, the results are strained and awkward, as his voice isn't strong enough to carry raucous material. ~ Richie Unterberger
