This is a retrospective comparative study entitled: Maternal and perinatal prognosis of emergency cesarean section versus prophylactic cesarean section at the Nianankoro Fomba Hospital in Segou. The objective was to determine the indications in the two patient groups, to determine the influence of the quality of prenatal follow-up in the two patient groups, and to specify the maternal and perinatal prognosis. The frequency of emergency cesarean section was 24.58% and prophylactic cesarean section 22.58%. The total number of cesarean sections was 899 for a total of 2340 deliveries, i.e., a frequency of 38.41%. The average age in our study population was 27 years with extremes of 14 and 45 years. The most frequent indication was the generally narrowed pelvis with 21.27% for emergency cesarean section, and the multicatricial uterus with 22.41% for prophylactic cesarean section. The maternal and perinatal prognosis of emergency cesarean section was worse than prophylactic cesarean section.
