Alden is more determined than ever to unmask the Ammosian queen's killer after leaving the Shadowen Thieves Guild and saving Princess Mayli. Trusting his friends to aid in the investigation in Dregs, he returns to Brimley to uncover clues at the scene of the crime. The weight of responsibility falls heavily on his shoulders as he must choose to expose the murderer or stay loyal to his kingdom. Princess Mayli searches for truth after her enemies helped return her safely to Ammos. Faced with incriminating evidence to solve her mother's murder, Mayli must decide if keeping her family's secrets is worth destroying an innocent man's life and if she can ever forgive the one truly responsible.
