The music is vintage '60s country, from the Bakersfield-influenced title track and "You Wouldn't Cross the Street to Say Goodbye" to the tears-in-your-beer "Suffering in Silence," and while
Nelson
's voice doesn't yet possess the authority of his mature years, the compilation illustrates his masterful, if often dark, songwriting skills.
