The author reassesses the reasons for Nobunaga's attacks on the Buddhist temples and explores the long-term effects of his activities on the temples and on the relation between Buddhism and the state. Originally published in 1985. The uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press.
