The story of the Black and Tan War in Galway has not been fully told before. It was, for the most part, a conflict that saw the shedding of 'blood for blood without remorse'. The men of tile Galway IRA were for the moist part not soldiers, while their enemies were armed and trained by one of the most powerful empires in the world. Yet they faced the ever-present threat from the Black and Tans and Auxiliaries with courage and fortitude. Although the odds were against them, they fought back with increasing resolve and developed into a well-organised fighting force capable of defeating their British opponents. In Blood for Blood renowned Galway author William Henry tells the story of the Galway men who risked all in Ireland's fight for independence. He also looks at the Irishmen in the RIG who found themselves fighting their own countrymen, and the soldiers of the British Army stationed in the county, some of whom saw the behaviour, of the Auxiliaries and Black and Tans as a disgrace to their country.
