Blessed Are the Peacemakers

As young Barry D. Loffler learns during the fraught days of the Vietnam War, mere survival isn't the only thing worth fighting for out there in the jungle. He must discover how to become a soldier and still keep his conscience clear. It certainly won't be easy. Barry does, however, have a good guide for his journey. His grandfather has been a continual, comforting presence in his life. The wise man taught Barry the traditions of their Native American tribe and spoke of the mysterious visions that would help Barry find his path. Ever since he was little, Barry has dreamed of stalwart friends, beautiful women, and heroic quests. He joined the war to become a hero of a different sort, but Barry soon realizes that dreams aren't enough to sustain him so far from home. He will call upon both his tribal legacy and his grandfather's wisdom to find the right path forward. Barry will find friendship and love on his journey but also brutality and senseless violence. In this tense coming-of-age story, he will discover his limits and the surprising power of his own moral code and integrity.
