Christianity in Africa is vibrant and pervasive. Churches and ministries are rapidly being established, almost in every corner, and African Christianity is increasingly becoming a way of life for most Africans. It is no doubt that the African race is deeply religious.
(Joseph Galgalo)
The problem with the African church today is that numerical strength is erroneously used as the criteria for measuring the effectiveness of the church's task in discipleship and missions.
The quest for membership has largely produced a Christianity of convenience, where members take on faith as a role play and where rehearsed formula such as
has become the sole determinant for inclusion or exclusion into a given status, recognition or social belonging. The prevailing result is an abundance of the presence of a Christianity that is followed by all yet upheld by only a few. There is a pervasive and contagious confession of faith yet without the evidence of its power to change lives or transform communities of faith.
I am a Kenyan, and therefore my context of writing is the "African Christianity" in Kenya. I want to believe that the type of Christianity I have witnessed among my Kenyan Africans is no different from that of other Africans, especially in East, Central, West and Southern African countries. I pray that you will find this little book as helpful and informative as possible. God bless you for getting yourself a copy.
