Eileen was born in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, on 13th April 1920 and for her first forty-eight years she worked hard - she was a "twister" in a carpet mill - and got on with being a wife and mother. In late 1968, along with millions of others she was "glued" to her television, enthralled, as the Apollo 8 mission orbited the moon. It was a life changing event! On 27th December 1968 Eileen started writing poetry. Through her verse, she tells the story of her century with honesty and integrity. We might not always agree with what she says, or how she says it, but she reflects the views of a generation who lived through very interesting times, who lost their youth to a world war and, at the end, sometimes felt forgotten. Eileen did see the dawn of the new millennium and was very proud to reach eighty. She wrote and kept busy and active until the day she died, very suddenly, in February 2001.
