Sheila Jones, a young, Black girl from a small town, Brookshire, Texas, knows what it feels like to be unloved and abused. She refuses to be trodden down and feel sorry for herself. Instead, she rises to the occasion and shows a firm determination to overcome all obstacles while fulfilling her dreams. Life for her was full of heartaches, disappointments, and setbacks. She chose to fight rather than to succumb to her dismal plight, and she made it. Now her life had meaning, and she felt validated. The road ahead led her to a much happier place and time.
