A Fire the Road

On a beautifully clear spring morning in southwestern Colorado, fourteen-year-old Theresa Hickerson's idyllic life on a luxurious ranch is shattered after her eleven-year-old stepbrother is senselessly murdered in the driveway. For the next eleven years, she tries to understand by compiling any and all information about how and why this tragedy occurred. Starting with members of her own family and friends, but most of all trying to make sense of the perpetrator, who happens to be her biological father. Despite her difficult endeavors, after a decade, doubts remain. It's a story of devotion and resiliency as she attempts to uncover the truth disclosing her family's deepest secrets. But above all, as she matures, learns by trial about loss, how to heal, and forgiveness.
