An 11 by 11 foot footprint puts about 121 square feet of continuous shade on the sand, sized for a group of six to eight people rather than the tight quarters of a personal shelter. Construction uses a 180 g/m2 membrane of 85% Lycra polyester and 15% spandex certified Upf 50+, which stops 98% or more of Uva and Uvb radiation yet stays breathable enough that the shaded area runs cooler than comparable coated polyester canopies. Setup takes under five minutes on ordinary beach sand because the pop-up frame needs no tools or pre-drilled anchors, and four gravity sandbags plus two thickened aluminum poles handle Beaufort level 3 to 4 winds of 12 to 28 kilometres per hour. Peak height measures 6.6 feet for upright standing room, and total weight is only 6.6 pounds. The shelter collapses into a 10.6 by 17.5 by 8.3 inch bag with sand shovels supplied. Spot clean the fabric with mild soap and air dry it before packing.
