One of the questions that Christians have asked through the ages is whether they can have assurance of the salvation they claim. The Apostle John says very clearly that we can and then gives us marks of faith upon which we can base our assurance. Thus, his words are just as relative today as they were to his original, first-century audience. He writes that we may be assured of the genuineness of faith.
