This book is about what could happen if Christmas didn't exist, as seen through the eyes of Jessica, a field rat who gets lost in the big city. She learns to survive in the city with the help of a pack of city rats. She quickly sees for herself the dangers both rats and humans live with every day. She finds herself eventually becoming one of the pack, until her father finds her and reminds her what she has waiting at home for her.
