The Watergate break-in scandal (early 1970s) forced the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to transfer their most questionable ultra-secret operations to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). The DEA established groups titled Bureau of Narcotics Counter-Intelligence Network (BUNCIN) and Clandestine Operations Network (DEACON) to collaborate with CIA Special Operations Group (SOG) and Special Activities Division (SAD) members. This arrangement permitted the CIA to continue their questionable operations plus conduct operations within the United States, which is strictly against their charter. During the process, a few individuals involved died under suspicious circumstances. And several, one in particular, had to 'up and die' (fake their deaths) to keep secrets and continue operations. Staged deaths, complete with funerals and families in mourning, took place. The CIA relocated these assets outside the US. They continued their role in Black (hidden from organization or government scrutiny) and Wet (assassination) CIA operations. Their actions ensured their stealth, as the dead could never be responsible for any of the CIA's questionable activities.
