Face detection is a fundamental component of computer vision, a field of artificial intelligence (AI) that aims to enable machines to understand and interpret visual data. As such, computer vision, as the link between software and the visual world around us, focuses on the recognition and interpretation of objects and environments from visual data. For example, it might be a matter of determining a piece of fruit by its color, shape and size. While this task is instinctive for humans, for a computer it will require a complex process of data acquisition, processing, learning and inference using sophisticated algorithms.
